Performance Modeling, Analysis and Control of Capacitated Re-entrant Lines
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS First, I would like to thank God for blessing me and allowing me such opportunities as to complete my Ph.D. I would express my sincere appreciation to my advisor, Professor Spyros A. Reveliotis for his thoughtful guidance, encouragement and support that he has generously provided throughout my Ph.D. work. Jim Dai and Magnus Egerstedt for their time and valuable comments and sug...
متن کاملStability of re-entrant flow lines∗
The paper addresses the issue of stability for re-entrant flow lines, producing multiple products, with capacitated machines, random demand and random yield. The policies of interest are multi-echelon base stock policies, combined with a set of static and dynamic management rules of the available capacity. We introduce three classes of capacitated echelon base stock policies: Π0, the pure multi...
متن کاملScheduling Manufacturing Systems of Re{entrant Lines
Re{entrant lines are manufacturing systems where parts may return more than once to the same machine, for repeated stages of processing. Examples of such systems are semiconductor manufacturing plants. We consider the problems of scheduling such systems to reduce manufacturing lead times, variations in the manufacturing lead times, or holding costs. We assume a deterministic model, which allows...
متن کاملWorkload minimization in re-entrant lines
This paper is concerned with workload minimization in re-entrant lines with exponential service times and preemptive control policies. Using a numerical algorithm called the power series algorithm we obtain nearly optimal policies for systems with up to 8 queues. We also improve considerably the implementation of the power series algorithm.
متن کاملOn the guaranteed throughput and efficiency of closed re-entrant lines
A closed network is said to be “guaranteed efficient” if the throughput converges under all non-idling policies to the capacity of the bottlenecks in the network, as the number of trapped customers increases to infinity. We obtain a necessary condition for guaranteed efficiency of closed re-entrant lines. For balanced two-station systems, this necessary condition is almost sufficient, differing...
